The
historical procession

The
“Cassero” tower, symbol of the group.
Il
Cassero’s group is usually composed of about 50 people, that wear first
Tuscan Middle Age dresses; these have been made after accurate studies on the
medieval paintings kept in the museums and the churches of Val di Chiana,
where Castiglion Fiorentino lies. The group is made up of:
The Porta
Vessillo:
(banner
bearer), that opens the parade carrying the sign of the group; it portrays
the XII century “Cassero” tower, that stands at the top of the hill
where Castiglion Fiorentino lies.
The Armati
: (warriors),
that come behind the “porta-vessillo”; they symbolically protect the group
during the crossing of a “foreign” lands.

Dame di corte:
(ladies),
that wear the rich and at the same time sober dresses of the ancient families;
they watch the exhibition of the “musici” and the “sbandieratori” with
the audience.

Le Chiarine:
(trumpet
players), with their music they draw people’s attention to the parade and
to the “sbandieratori” when they are going to carry out some
particularly difficult moves. Along with the “tamburi” they form the
“musici” (musicians).

I Tamburi:
(drum
players), that beat the parade’s time and accompany the “sbandieratori”’s
show; with the “chiarine” they can perform their own spectacle.

Gli
Sbandieratori:
(flag-wavers),
that with agile moves and flag throws celebrate solemnly the event and
recall the medieval celebrations.
The
whole parade aims to create a kind of suggestion in the audience through the
synchrony of figures, colours, sounds and movements that come from an
ancient age.
